I’m placing up for sale a pre-owned Garmin automotive GPS. It’s excellent condition and comes with a factory cigarette lighter power supply adapter. Unlike your cell phone it doesn’t require data or a WIFI connection plus it frees up your cell phone to use for other things.
This one is a model Nuvi 50LM and it has a large 5.0” screen. The LM in the part number stands for “Lifetime Maps”. Normally you can connect your GPS to your home computer and download updated maps, but I tried numerous times but I cannot get the GPS to be seen by the computer.
It will work perfectly fine as it though (it just won’t have the newest of map updates so some newer road construction may not be recognized. Since it won’t take an update, I’m offering this one at a significant discount so you can still have a good GPS on a tight budget. It’s a great starter GPS plus you can use it if your phone isn’t working or keep it in your 2nd vehicle.
As far as the features of this model, here’s the main ones:
• Display: Features a 5-inch WQVGA color touchscreen with a resolution of 480 x 272 pixels. Reviewers at CNET note the screen is bright and easy to read in various lighting conditions.
• Maps and Navigation: Comes with preloaded maps (usually of the lower 48 U.S. states, with other regional versions available) and free lifetime map updates, which users cite as a major benefit. It offers voice-prompted, turn-by-turn directions that speak street names.
• Driver Aids: Includes lane assist with junction view, which guides users to the correct lane for an approaching turn or exit, and a speed limit indicator that displays speed limits for most major roads.
• Points of Interest (POIs): Preloaded with millions of POIs, and allows for adding custom ones. Reviewers on GPS City mention an easy "Where to?" function to find services like restaurants and gas stations.
• Portability: Weighing about 6.3 ounces (180.1 grams), it is lightweight and portable.
• Battery Life: The rechargeable lithium-ion battery provides approximately 2 hours of use on a full charge.
Here’s a detailed online review of this model from a national website:
I’ve been using these older Garmin’s for years and in my opinion one of the nicest features about these is they use a standard mini USB adapter connection. This gives you lots of options when it comes to connecting it to your vehicle.
For occasional use you can use the (included) cigarette lighter adapter. I personally like to have mine connected at all times so I bought a USB to mini USB cable online the perfect length for running down the inner portion of my side pillar trim and under my dash to connect to a dual USB cigarette lighter adapter.
I usually mount my GPS units in the upper left side of my windshield and hide the cord in the side pillar for a nice clean look. On one of my vehicles, I even hardwired a line with a mini USB connection directly to my fuse box making it 98% invisible.
The later model GPS tend to use a less standard type of connection so you don’t have as many options and you have to use their adapters only. The mini USB is a very common connection and available in many lengths very inexpensively online.
I’d prefer to sell in person to a local buyer, but would be willing to ship out of town if you pay via PayPal and cover the actual cost of shipping. It would run between 12.00 to 18.00 range (contact with info for a quote).
