A rice bed is a type of traditional, four-poster bed, often featuring carved details of rice sheaves on the posts, particularly prominent in the Charleston, South Carolina area. These beds were a symbol of wealth and status, reflecting the importance of rice cultivation in the region's history. Beyond their decorative aspect, rice beds were also designed for practical purposes, including better air circulation, especially during hot and humid summers.
This is a beautiful antique full-size rice bedframe.
It is all solid mahogany wood.
The posts are absolutely gorgeous. All solid wood hand carved.
The 12 inch tall finials at the very top of the posts can be removed so it will be a little bit easier to transport this.
You will get the headboard, footboard, and the side rails.
The side rails have metal supports to put the boxspring on.
There is a little bit of simple hardware that’s required to put this bed together.
I have 6 inch long bolts that go with this, but there is a special piece of hardware that goes in the circular indentation in the wood that I do not have.
But a small curved rectangular washer will hold this into place.
I was just too lazy to get the hardware myself ha ha.
I can send you a picture of the hardware that I’m talking about. It is a simple fix.
Posts are 86 inches tall.
84 inches long
(front to back)
58 inches wide
