The fact remains that our forefathers did nto write Christianity as the religion of state into the constitution. They could have . They had every opportunity to ensure there was NO mistake about it. That they did not says they did not want it to be. Actions do not lie. As for them being Christians the following quotes seem todisagree.

You state - John Jay, the first Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court said: "Providence has given to our people the choice of their ruler, and it is the duty, as well as the privilege and interest of our Christian nation to select and prefer Christians for their rulers." This was said despite the explicit provision in the federal Constitution forbidding any religious test for federal public office.
Note - Maybe Mr Jay would have been elected President if he had stuck to the core principles of our constitution as the following PRESIDENTS did...

So , while you have cited some of the lesser known players I have cited some of the key players. I am not here to assert our forefathers were not Christian. Many were. However , not ALL were, as so many like to lead us to believe as evidenced by the stats you gave and , I have proven to be false or misleading.
The key players, as I have shown, were not or .if it makes you feel better . would not be considered Christian by mainstream Christianity today based on their comments I have given .
Again, I must emphasize, Christianity as the religion of state was NOT written into the constitution. So, it does not seem reasonable to assume our forefathers wished it to be. Based on the quotes I have given and, from the example given of not writing it into the constitution , it would be reasonable to assume they did NOT wish it to be.
